April Art Showcase: Yuri Hill

For this month’s art feature we are taking a look at the fantastic dark fantasy/horror-inspired pieces from Yuri Hill.

Yuri is a 2d digital artist hailing from Ukraine. Taking his inspiration from ambient music, film, and walks through the woods, his work conveys that particular feeling you get strolling through a dark and deep forest by yourself. That feeling like something can see you but you can’t see it. Of course, the paintings also make me think perhaps you don’t want to find out what that thing actually is.

All Yuri’s paintings are done in photoshop, though he got his start with spending his lunch hours from his job at a call center doing pencil drawings. Eventually, he was invited to a game company and has since been commercially involved in art.

His advice for those just starting out is “never give up if you like art,” spend as much time as possible learning the basics like how to draw a cube, ball, perspective, composition, and anatomy. Practice is imperative as is studying other accomplished artists.

Perhaps in time, all of us wannabe artists can paint like Yuri. For now, and without further ado, let's check out the terrifying work of Yuri Hill….
